today was a lazy sunday in ansan. i did absolutely nothing, nothing at all. its days like this that make me miss sf. i'm not sure why. its not like i was constanstly doing things there. i guess it the fact that i knew there were stuff to do. i'm beginning to feel like a lazy bum lately. somehow i managed to do nothing but update and play on my computer. did i practice my tae kwon do moves. no. did i study the korean alphabet. no. and now these things are taunting me. i did manage to get some laundry done. as well as clean the drain in my bathroom. talk about gross. i'm so glad i found a pair of rubber gloves under the sink. because i definitely don't want to touch that crap.
after two weeks of no grocery shopping i finally made myself go to carrefour this morning. i spent two hours there. a majority of that time was spent on the 3rd floor which the the target-like area. i was looking at a lot of these korean graphic novels that i can't read. they look really cool. one thing that i've noticed is that there are a lot of cool books: sticker books, colorform type books, etc. there was a lot of things i wanted to buy but didn't. thats the one nice thing about being here without a credit card is that i'm not tempted to impulse buy.
finally i made it down to the food section. one word of advice don't wait so long to go shopping. i needed basically everything. it took me 20 minutes to find where the sugar was. and trying to buy detergent is also a fun chore. there are far to many and of course you can't read any of them. plus when they tape extras to the boxes i'm also like "i have to have that one, even if its 16,000 won." by the time i made it to the check out i was nervous that i might not have enough money. and guess what i didn't. i had to have the clerk hold some items while i went to the cash machine. my first experience with that. after an unsuccessful try with the first machine and went to another. so far so good until it asked me for my pin. i remember the letters of my pin but not the numbers. of course the machine didn't have letters on it. i decided to take a guess and luckily enough i was right. time to go back to the clerk. now i had to check my previous bought items and get back in line. sometimes it feels the easiest things to do here are the hardest.
back at home i made some yellow rice which my sister sent and mixed it with vegetables and grounded pork. it was so good. i wanted ground beef but its like $9 dollars here. crazy huh. anyway, like i said before the rest of the day was spent being in a giant vortex. or so it seemed. i'm going to head back into that vortex and perhaps i'll even go to bed before 1 am tonight. until next time.
