deeper & deeper

christmas has come and gone. i arrived in miami 12 days ago to wrapped presents under the tree. i now leave with toys thrown all over the family room. all in all it was a great christmas. the tension that arose early in the trip faded into the background and we were all able to once again enjoy ourselves. the arrival of my folks helped a lot. it was really great to see them. they both appeared to be in good spirits. i took a day trip with my folks to visit some friends of theirs in naples. we drove down alligator alley and saw all the gators resting on the side. we had lots of activities building up to christmas day. we all went to the beach to gather up shells, tried crabbing off a pier which was a bust, lunched at the beach where we saw a raccoon, and did some last minute shopping. my nieces and nephew made out like bandits for christmas. santa brought them bikes and scooters. watching them rip through the presents was great. my sister and i didn't get to our sockings until late that night. sockings are my favorite. i could do without the gifts as long as i had a socking.

the other day my sister and i went to south beach. i was on a mission to find some shoes. no luck. i did manage to get a bit of a sunburn though. it was hot!! while my parents were here i had to bunk in morgan who will be three in february. on the first night i awoke to her hitting my face saying "mom", "dad", then climbing into bed with me. at least she managed to fall back to sleep. the next night around 5:30 am i awoke to her staring at me with a bunny under one arm and a princess wand in the other. again she climbed into bed but refuse to sleep. instead she kept telling me i needed a new tummy. i managed to keep her entertained for a bit before she stood up and said she was leaving. needless to say i didn't get back to sleep.

there were lots of pictures taken. i'll try to get them posted next week some time. so now its time to head back to sf. all i really want to do is sleep but i have to move into my apartment. someone give me the strength...

melt your heart

friday was a somewhat busy day. early that morningi had an interview, although as of yesterday i found out i didn't get the job. merry christmas to me. then that night i spent some time with "mr. s". we dined, hung out, and i had some coffee. it was nice. i definitely do enjoy spending time with him. he makes me think. which is totally a good thing. it was especially nice since i was heading out for florida on sunday so it would be awhile until i saw him again.

kate, joe, derek, & i ventured out on saturday to check out the bazaar bizarre, an arts and craft show being held at the sf county fair building. i didn't even know there was a county fair building in golden gate park. there were a lot interesting booths there. martin hsu was by far my favorite vendor. i really liked his illustrations. derek ended up buying a really cool picture. while walking around i also tended to notice that beside there being a lot of felt there, owls seemed to be the animal of choice. i must have missed the memo of the owl rebirth. owls still remind me of my youth. my mother was an avid collector. i managed to leave the bizarre having only purchased 3 postcards and a couple of pins. there was a whole lot more i wanted to buy but refrained. i'm such a good boy.

sunday my day started at 4am. the shuttle bus was suppose to pick me up between 4:50-5:05 am. it was a good thing i was ready to go early because they showed up at 4:40 am. ten minutes early. my flight took off at 7am. it was pretty uneventful. i sat next to a baby. as baby's go he was extremely good. i was quite surprised. i did manage to catch a few winks of sleep which was much needed. i arrived in miami around 4pm. i spent the evening hanging with my sister and her family. it was nice. on monday my sister and i did some running around sans children. i'm sure it was a nice change of pace for her. the kids are adorable. i just want to squeeze their little faces. spending time with them is great. although i forgot how many questions children have about everything. paige and i organized a princess party the other day. it was a giant hit. all the stuffed animals enjoyed themselves. can't wait to see what is next.

i wish i could say that everything was going as smoothly but its just not the case. holidays always seem to bring about tension and unfortunately this trip has already been plagued. i'm contemplating cutting my trip short by a few days. i'll probably wait til the end of the week to decide. although i do know that next time i won't be coming for so long of a time.

down the line

i wandered down to the haight this week to do a bit of christmas shopping. for the most part the haight is basically the same—street kids all asking for money or smokes. i managed to find a few things i needed. on my way home i saw this festival, yet scary christmas window. it took me a minute to realize that the person wasn't real.

christmas window in haight

well, it's been 3 months since i returned and i finally had my first korean meal here in the states. i went with d and john. the food was quite good and reminded me of being in korea. the prices, however, seemed extremely high. i guess i'll just have to search out my hood for an inexpensive korean dining experience. after dinner we headed over to the stro to get some coffee at cafe flora. i had myself an eggnog latte which was quite delicious.

on saturday i headed off to concord to visit the huegels. i hadn't seen the twins since my last visit to the states which was in august 2006. i can't believe how much they have grown. it's always an experience to leave the city and venture off to the suburbs. one thing that i have realized is that the burbs make me feel uncomfortable. the one thing i love about the burbs is seeing things like this…

concord house

jesus....

you gotta love it. that night scott took me to a "hipster" bar in concord. they like to refer to it as the star wars bar. hmmm. before entering the door guy asked me if i was wearing a collared shirt. enough said. in all honestly it was a pretty decent place. its good to know that there are some cool places to hang out at even in the burbs. sunday morning scott made us pancakes. yummy. afterwards i gave the boys their christmas gifts.

opening a present

then we made our way to the park for a nice sunday stroll. i saw a coyote. how exciting! we stopped off to have some lunch where scott managed to spill a full beer on me. he tried to blame it on finn, but it was all him. finn seemed to be enjoying dipping his bread into ketchup and licking it off. i actually think all he ate was ketchup. i spent a little more time at the house waiting for my jeans to dry then it was back to the city.

on monday i went to japantown. i so love japantown. i always find all these things i want to buy. i was actually quite good and only spent $4 on some bunny sauce dishes. not sure why but i seem to have a thing for bunnies. last night misty, d, john, & i went to see the golden compass. it was like a comedy of errors seeing that both misty and i forgot our cellphones so there was no way of telling if the boys were there or not. after looking all around we decided to just head into the movie. they were already there. don't really have much to say about the movie itself. i'm still trying to figure out how i feel about it. although i do wonder why people feel the need to talk during the movie. can't you keep quite quiet for at least 2 hours. and babies...come on! ok, that about wraps it up for now.

in keeping with my past posts i thought i'd continue along with the k-model theme. on my quest through cyberspace i stumbled upon esteem, which is a model management site in korea. of course my fan favorite, lee eon, is one of the featured models in the male list. also on the site is kim jae-wook, who co-starred with eon in coffee prince. as well as the other hot guys from i am model men. if you're in need for some eye candy be sure to check out the photos on the site. for those interested in women, no fears, there is also a female list of models. happy viewing!

a lot of events were happening this past weekend. saturday night a group of us headed down to shine to catch d-moviestar in his big, french, short film debut, the gossamer seam. look out france, i think i've found your new star. the space was cool, the turnout good, and the film entertaining—what more could you want in a evening. on sunday misty and i went to bimbo's for aimee mann's 2nd annual christmas show. the last time i saw aimee mann, who was in til tuesday at the time, i was just a junior in high school. til tuesday along with crowded house played mtv's spring break concert at daytona beach. justine bateman was the celebrity host. my friends and i made the journey down from o-town. it was a great day filled with sunshine, music, friends, and beers. i even managed not to get sunburned. but enough about that. let's head back to the present. so i was quite excited to see aimee again after all these years. unfortunately, i wasn't quite prepared for the events that unfolded. once inside bimbo's we noticed that there were tables everywhere, even on the dance floor. the place was packed. we ended up being seated in the very back next to the bar. so much for standing. the annoying part of sitting at a show is the constant traffic of the staff waking by. i can't even recall the number of times i was bumped. i tried to put aside the anger i felt of being way in the back and the enjoy the show. which was fine until poodle head sat directly in front of me blocking what little view i had. i had to refrain from setting her hair ablaze. thankfully she left halfway through the show. as for the show itself, it was kind of like a variety show in the same vain as donny and marie or sony and cher. i wasn't quite expecting that either but i went with it. the comedian sucked. the film that was shown was quite funny and good. who knew that aimee has such a good sense of humor. the guest musicians were ok. nothing to write home about. as for aimee, well she sounded amazing. she delivered just like i knew she would. i was hoping she would have sung more non-christmas songs but it was a christmas show after all. i do look forward to checking out her non-christmas show the next time she's in town. until then…i'll see you around.
