we are aliens

i slept like shit last night. i think the mystery mosquito that was haunting 4051 19th followed me here. i woke up around 1:30 am scrataching and sweating. i've been trying to avoid using the air conditioning since i have no idea what thats going to cost but i caved in and had to turn it on. my bed, which is suppose to a twin is really a bit shorter than that. i have a constanst fear that i'm going to roll off of the damn thing. plus my feet completely hang off the side and its like sleeping on concrete. the pillow is just as bad. all i crave right now is a soft, comfy, giant bed. i guess i should be thankful that i even have a bed.

there was no kindergarten class today. instead jane took horace and i to get our alien registration cards. yes i'm officially an alien. it took about an hour to get there. both jane and jean were laughing when we put on our seatbeats in the back. good thing we did because i think she ran 3 yellow lights and one red. i'm telling koreans don't stop for anything. at the registration place horace and i basically sat there and smile while jean and jane filed out our paperwork. it's so weird not being able to do anything on your own. we were like dolls, being dragged here, placed there all the while people are staring at us. i found out today that jane is our sponsor while being here. once we get our cards which will take 1 week we'll be able to get cell phones. how exciting.

back at school we ate lunch. i actually brought mine today but was craving korean food. how odd is that. it must have been because i ate nothing but faux-western food that i made myself this weekend. i missed having my kimchee snacks at lunch. i decided to today that i'm not going to bring lunch anymore. at least not this week. the rest of my day was pretty routine. my class with sally went well. she recited two different stories to me. i wore my glasses today and she pointed at me saying "teacher, teacher why are you wearing those." my response was i need them becasue i can see near and not far. do you remember what that is?" and she said nearsighted. we learned that last week. so smart. during my pre-teen class i have a new teacher sit in to observe. i was a little nervous at first but then i forgot she was there. today was the day i made the students standup in front of the class and tell us what they did this weekend. no one wanted to volunteer so i made shaun go first. after he was done i made another student answer some questions about what he did to see if they were listening. i did this for all four of them. of course they all had the same answer: homework, computer games, studying. their homework today was for them to write down "what they did after school." however this time they can not use computer games, homework, or studying as answers. i'll get them talking yet. they are actually coming around. afterwards joe, the teacher who was observing said she like how i'm making them interact. that made me feel good.

the rest of the day was spent working on my superhero collage for my classroom. i'm almost done. hopefully by friday it'll be done. jane also brought me a frying pan today. now i can actually cook something. how exciting. tonight i'm going to kick back and either watch a dvd or read. or maybe i'll just turn in early. all these choices.
until next time…
