tokyo a no-go

wow.its a new day and i've had zero sleep. i guess that's what happens when one gets caught up in bad movies. damn olsen twins. we landed at the remote airport in narita. i had to jump on a bus with a bunch of teenaged japanese kids to get to the terminal. lucky me. i was imagining some grand ala vegas type of airport, which it might have been but i didn't see any of that. at this point i wasn't feel too well and my carry on weighed about 70 lb. damn speakers. i had a pretty uneventful time there. just sat and watched people wondering what the hell am i doing. an hour later i was on another bus going to the plane. managed to catch a few winks on the plane. we landed in icheon around 10pm. i made my way through customs where she told me i needed to get an alien registertion card within 90 days. i nodded and continued to baggage claim. had a little bit of difficutly with the cart. couldn't really read the instructions to get it out. luckily someone came by and gave me a hand. at this point i had a bit of freak out because i realized i didn't have any contact information for horace or jk. what if they didn't come or i missed them. i tried not to give it much thought. got my luggage, exchanged my dollars for wons, and headed out the door. saw horace standing of to the right. it was so nice to see a familiar face. he introduced me to jk, the director of our school, then we headed for the school bus which is actually a van with the name of the school on the side. it took about an hour to get to ansan. ansan is a suburb of seoul. for those of you reading this from florida it's like being in altamonte but with giant buildings. everything is built so high up. all the buildings/apartments blend into on giant korean sign.

when we got to the apartment the first thing we had to do was take off our shoes. right then i knew i should have brought only slip on shoes. after entering, jk apologized for the electricity being off. it seems that it won't be turned on until tomorrow. the apartment is very minimal. its basically one giant room with a loft. in the lower part is the tiny kitchen, it consists of a refrigerator, a kimchee fridge, two burners, a sink, a couple of cabinets, and a washer/dryer. yes its a combo. not sure how that works but its right in the kitchen. oh, there's also a table and two chairs. jk's wife jane also supplied me with 4 bowels, 2 glasses, 2 spoons, 2 forks, 2 pairs of chopsticks, and a pan. upstairs was a single bed. i realized at this point i will always be haunted by single beds. 2 bed sidetables and one long table. yes all my furniture was basically upstairs where i can't even stand up straight.

i almost forgot about the bathroom. there half a shower door next to the toilet. the entire bathroom floor gets wet when you shower. it seems the water drains underneath the sink. this is going to be interesting.

one thing i can't forget to mention is that with the sheets jane provide she also gave me some pajamas and a nightgown that match the sheets. horace and i will model them later. seeing that it was dark except for the neon lights from the building across the street i decided against unpacking. instead i went to horace's apartment. he's on the fifth floor, i'm on the eighth. we hung out for a little drinking whiskey and chatting. it was still so hard for me to believe that i was in korea. and horace was here, too. its so wild. around 2 am i headed back to my apartment. we have school in the morning. now that's going to be fun…
