monkey

e.thoughts:
kids gone wild
while riding home on the subway the other night a woman sat next to me carrying a bouquet of balloons. there was one giant yellow one with giant lips, eyes, and a nose and several smaller ones around it. within seconds some boy came running over and started to hit the yellow balloon. then he squeezed the smaller ones. this prompted his baby sister to came over and start poking it too. the woman holding the balloons said nothing. the children's father came over and took the little girl away but left the boy there to continue to hit the balloon. i was waiting for it to pop but it never did. at one point i looked over at the boy's parents and there were smiling like it was the funniest thing they ever saw. now if this happened back home one of three things would have happened:
1. the boy's parents would have grabbed the boy scolding him for his actions
2. the boy would have been slapped by his mother
3. the person holding the balloons would have yelled at the boy's parents to control their child
my question: why do koreans indulge in such behavior and why do the parents let their children do anything they want?

be well…

Dunno. Seems to be such a different way of raising children to what I'm used to, in so many ways. Like beating kids all the time but hugging them immediately or buying them candy immediately.
